We are starting a new segment on the blog this week called, Friday Favorites! I’m going to be looking back on my week and sharing my favorite items, recipes, podcasts, people, books, etc. It is going to be a great way to share and recap my weeks, while also sharing all the things I’m loving currently. Also hoping this will help keep me accountable on getting out more blog posts each week!
I hope you all have had a lovely week! It was honestly a very chill week in the Lovett household, and my goal this week was to truly embrace it. We catered a wedding late Saturday for the coffee cart, so the beginning of the week was spent more recovering from that event. The rest of the week was really spent embracing the stillness and quietness that the week brought. We are gearing up to start market in just two weeks, and we are headed out of town next week so I embraced all the chill moments this week brought. So while it was a quiet and simple week, it was truly life-giving!

My favorite running shoes of all time to this day are ONs and Hokas. I only recently tried Hokas after battling some intense plantar fasciitis in my left foot, and they have been life-changing for this purpose. I think the average walker/runner does not necessarily need Hokas (as they are very, very expensive), but for those prone to injuries or trying to recover from injuries, I think they give incredible support and structure to your feet while running. I will say ONs are much nicer to look at, and you can get away wearing them anytime anywhere, whereas Hokas are chunky and usually not as pretty. My Hokas saved my life with my half marathon a couple weeks ago, and even though I did develop blisters because of the rain, I didn’t feel any plantar fasciitis pain while running.
We moved to a new apartment last month, and the location is everything. We live about a mile from the nearest library, and it is a beautiful library with a great room of teen/young adult reads which are my favorite. They also have a courtyard and grass area surrounding the library that I’m hoping to check out as it gets warmer! We definitely are in a season of saving money right now, and I go through books (when motivated) very quickly, and we just cannot have me spending $20 on a book every week. This is where the library comes in. One of my favorite joys is just spending a full hour in the library going through books, checking goodreads for reviews, reading the first few pages and deciding what books I want to read next. I am always slightly biased and go my cover first, but this way I find so many books I would have never read otherwise! I went earlier this week and picked up a large stack of books. I ended up reading two of them this week (which will be shared below) and then returning later in the week to pick up the sequels. I love the accessibility of the library. I love that it has newer books and older books available. It has just been the best time going into the library this past week.
I have been on a big book mood as of recent, and I’m pretty sure I finished two different series in the last couple weeks. Most of my library books were due this week, so I tried to stick with books I already own. A book I have been going back to a lot this week is “Garden City” by John Mark Comer. It is truly just a life-changing book to read and take in. This is a non-fiction book that is almost entirely spiritual based. It talks about the importance of work and what we spend our time doing everyday and how this relates to our relationship with God. I find it really encouraging and thought provoking, and even though I have read this book already, I find more things to highlight everytime I go through it. I just picked up several young adult reads today at the library that I hopefully will be reading and updating you all on next week!
I do not know what has been up with my energy levels this week, but my Celsius drink each day has been the key to my energy! I would drink these everyday when I was working my last job during my lunch break, and they do wonders in terms of caffeine. I try not to drink too much caffeine, as we already own a coffee business, but this week I’ve definitely felt the need for a Celsius during my early morning wake ups or mid day slumps. I know a lot of people who utilize these drinks as a kind of “pre-workout,” and I definitely think it’s a great alternative to the traditional powders. My favorite flavor is the Fuji Apple Pear, but I will pretty much drink any of them!
Teriyaki Turkey Bowls
This is probably the recipe I cook more than any other. It is healthy-ish. It is very budget friendly, since your main source of meat is ground turkey. It has a decent amount of vegetables in it which we love! It also is super easy to make and definitely not as time consuming as most recipes are. And Nathan is absolutely obsessed with it so it is made at least once a month in our household. We made two servings of this meal, and it fed us for 4 nights of the week! I typically serve it with jasmine rice, and then I add on Trader Joe’s General Tso sauce for some additional flavor, mainly for the rice.
If you know Nathan or I personally, you know we love Survivor! The last season was not our favorite, so we are definitely looking forward to this new season that just started last week. I have much higher hopes for this season! It helps to break up the mundaneness of the week by having something to look forward to, so Survivor on Wednesday nights is always perfect! We love this show because it is a mixture of skill and smarts. You basically are building community while also trying to excel at challenges. It is fun to watch, and it is always a fun tradition to keep!
I have been big into podcasts as of recent! They are the perfect thing to listen to on walks or while trying to get some errands done around town. I honestly listen to everything, from Christian podcasts to lifestyle/Youtuber podcasts to health/fitness based podcasts, etc. This week I started listening to John Mark Comer Teachings, which are basically old sermons he has done, just layed out in a more organized way. I started with his teachings on prayer and took so many notes from them. Another podcast I listened to this week was the In Bloom podcast and the episode was titled “Things I Do EVERY Day to Level Up My Mood, Wellbeing, and Energy.” This podcast is run by Abby, who I’m pretty sure is a influencer/Youtuber. I really like her view on things, and I find her podcast to always be motivating and encouraging.
I’ve been trying to get a lot of blog work in this week as well as catch up on my reading goals, so an instrumental playlist was needed! This cloud gazing playlist on Spotify has truly been on repeat for weeks. I have a couple I like to cycle through, but just found this one on Spotify that I’m loving! It gives very atmospheric vibes, and it is the perfect thing to listen to when working or reading or just when you need a break from the chaos of life. I find that music can often affect my mood or even alter it, so anytime I begin to feel anxious or overwhelmed, I found myself listening to this playlist this week!
These are just some random happy feeling moments from this week that brought me joy (I would be here all day if I tried to explain them, so I will just me listing them): sitting on my patio, sun on my face, warm weather, rainy days, cultivating community with new friends, a clean apartment, feeling time pass you by at the library, the runner’s high you get from sprint work.
