For our honeymoon, Nathan and I knew we wanted to go somewhere relaxing, beautiful, and peaceful. Nathan has visited Hawaii many times, and his favorite island has always been Maui. His family vacationed again to Hawaii several years ago while we were dating, and Nathan promised he would take me as soon as he could! So Hawaii was always at the top of our list for honeymoon destinations. We chose Maui, and specifically the Wailea area, in hopes for a beautiful landscape and tranquil atmosphere. When we researched resorts in the Wailea area, we ended up picking Hotel Wailea for its spectacular reviews and the fact it is an adults only resort. We wanted to share how amazing our stay was and why we absolutely loved Hotel Wailea!
1. The landscape and view cannot be beat.
During our time in the Wailea area, we walked around each of the resorts along the beach area. And while some of those may offer more amenities, Hotel Wailea gives you the authentic Hawaiian spirit and feel with lush greenery, tropical vibes, and simplicity in all of their designs. Each time we had a taxi drop us off at the resort, everyone would exclaim how they had the best view in the area, and I cannot agree more. Walking into the lobby of the hotel, you get a full view of the Wailea coast that no other resort in the area can offer you.
2. Hotel Wailea is a Relais & Châteaux resort, so they offer the best service and hospitality that can be found in Hawaii.
Since we knew we would spend a lot of time just relaxing, we wanted to make sure we picked the best place to stay on the island. We were greeted to the resort with leis and welcomed to the front desk. Arriving to our room was met with a great welcome, where a handwritten note and chilled champagne waited for us! We (early on in our stay) requested a room with a different view, and we were easily and quickly moved to a room where we loved the view. Some of our favorite people at the resort were our amazing drivers who drove us around in Teslas (for free) to any of the Wailea area! We used this service literally every day while we were there, and we loved getting to talk with the drivers and hear what they recommend for everything. The Hotel Wailea offers several free special classes for anything you enjoy. We signed up for a free outrigger canoe experience, and it was easily one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. I wish I had pictures and videos to show the most amazing sights I have ever seen. On this trip we shouted traditional Hawaiian chants, got to see several sea turtles literally next to our canoe, and even see a manta ray swim under us! Easily the most rewarding unexpected experience of the entire trip. Our guide for the canoe was a local with an ancestry deeply rooted in the Hawaiian culture, and we loved getting to hear about the culture straight from a source!
3. The pool is relaxing, rarely full, and literally beautiful.
I have never been and will probably never be the person who loves to sit at the pool all day, but let me tell you I dream about this pool at Hotel Wailea. They offer cabanas on a first come, first serve basis and have seating all around the pool for you to enjoy. There is a full service bar and you can also order any of the food off the amazing menu! I could not begin to list everything we tried off the menu but there is food and drinks for anyone’s tastes. There was sunscreen, towels, water brought to us, board games, and all the works ready for us when we arrived to our chairs. While the pool sometimes got crowded later in the day (as in there was maybe 15 people at most), for the most part, there was barely anyone there. The whole area was serene and quiet enough for me to get tons of reading in while tanning! We also had a dip in the hot tub on one of the nights since both the pool and hot tub stayed open 24 hours (so so nice).
4. The food is top notch.
So Hotel Wailea is famously known for the restaurant attached to it. While we were unable to try it during our trip (time got away from us towards the end of the trip), we heard stellar reviews from literally everyone we talked to. We were able to sample the food and drinks many times during our stay through room service! Our first full morning at the Hotel, we ordered breakfast to the room featuring a fresh french press of coffee, orange juice, and acai bowls (a must for a Hawaii vacation). The acai bowls here cannot be beat, and the orange juice was perfect (and freshly squeezed)! Since it has been a couple months since the trip I do not remember all we tried, but we loved everything we had and recommend for everyone staying here to try room service at least once and to make a trip to the restaurant!
5. They could not have picked a better location and proximity to the area.
Sitting atop the hills of the Wailea coast, Hotel Wailea has easily the best views in the area. On top of that, they are less than a mile from all the happenings in the area. You could easily walk down the road or take a short couple minutes drive to any of the Wailea resorts and shopping areas! After visiting almost all of the areas in Maui, you cannot get a more relaxing and authentic atmosphere than you receive in the Wailea area. With stunning beaches and tons of shops and restaurants to choose from, everyone in the area is relaxed and enjoying their time on the island. The options for water sports are endless over here. We took a catamaran ride just a couple miles down the Wailea coast, which was easily one of our favorite excursions, and it was amazing to be so close to some of the excursions we knew we wanted to experience. The area was family friendly, but it also boasted plenty of options for honeymooners or couples just wanting to enjoy their time on Maui!
I really could give a million reasons why we loved our stay here. Our honeymoon was better than we could ever expect it to be, and we cannot wait to make a trip back to Hotel Wailea again one day! Here are some more of my favorite pictures from around the resort:
