Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Polynesian Resort is probably my favorite Disney World restaurant. It is casual dining with the perfect mix of amazing food, aloha spirit, magical atmosphere, and convenience to the Magic Kingdom. Kona Cafe offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, and it is located on the second floor of the Polynesian Resort along the Magic Kingdom monorail loop. It is usually easy to get a dining reservation at Kona Cafe, and we often try to time it right before the Magic Kingdom opens.
I love the Polynesian because the minute you step on the property you feel as though you have been transported to the beautiful islands of Hawaii. Lush greenery, blue water, wood touches, and Hawaiian music bring you into the tropical vibes. When entering into the resort, make sure to stop by guest services and pick up leis for you and your family! Also check out the shops both downstairs and upstairs at some point before or after you eat.
If I am being honest, the real reason I go to Kona Cafe is for the famous tonga toast. There is nothing like it on Disney property, and it is the perfect meal to have before heading to the Magic Kingdom for a full park day). The tonga toast is basically a huge french toast loaf stuffed with banana topped with the most delicious strawberry sauce and your choice of meat. If you are not a banana person (like my husband) you can get the banana taken out upon request.
For other food options, you can get a traditional egg platter, macadamia nut pancakes, an omelet, and several other more authentic Hawaiian options. With your meal you can also get freshly brewed coffee in a french press (gives you about 3 cups), which I would highly recommend since the coffee is great, and it is easy to share. They also have Liliko’i Juice (which is the same as POG), which is a mixture of 3 different fruit juices, and a berry smoothie. There are also alcoholic beverages available for the adults.
Kona Cafe is the best place to go for breakfast on property because of the entire experience you get while there. The servers are some of the kindest cast members, everyone on property makes you feel like ohana, the food is incredible, the atmosphere is laid-back, views include watching the monorail, and you are just a couple steps away from hopping on the monorail and being at the Magic Kingdom! Make sure after you finish breakfast you explore the resort including the pool area and the beach in the back of the resort with views of Cinderella Castle! It is the perfect place to relax and get some photos before a big park day.
Kona Cafe will always be my favorite breakfast spot on property, and after years of coming back to this little spot, it reminds me of “home” just as much as the Magic Kingdom does.
Here’s to many more Kona Cafe visits,
